Between 2 and 4 March ReDICo member Fergal Lenehan from the University of Jena attended the conference “Changing Concepts of “Europe” since the 18th Century: Between the National, the Transnational and the Global” in Aarhus, Denmark. The event was organised by the University of Aarhus and the Leibniz Institute for Educational Media in Braunschweig and financed by the Independent Research Fund Denmark.
In attendance were researchers from Denmark, Germany, the Netherlands, Belgium, Italy, Slovenia and Albania. Participants came largely from the areas of intellectual history, literature and political science and all of the papers centred on concepts, visions and imaginings of Europe, with many presenters influenced by postcolonial theories.
Fergal, who in the past has published a monograph on ideas of Europe in Germany, Britain and Ireland, brought the conference to a conclusion by presenting a paper entitled “Europe on Twitter: Digital Europeanism and the @mycountryeurope Account” and, thus, communicated some of the ideas he has developed together with Roman Lietz within the ReDICo project.
