ReDICo’s Fergal Lenehan with a new article in the Journal Language and Intercultural Communication
Fergal Lenehan has a new article, available at present as a pre-print open-access text, in the journal Language and Intercultural Communication. It’s called “Examining realised and unrealised contacts: theoretical thoughts on digital interculturality” and looks to set out a theoretical framework for a possible Digital Interculturality Studies.
The New ReDICo Podcast and the Series “Freedom and the Internet”
2024 is the seventy fifth anniversary of the Grundgesetz – the German Basic Law – and the thirty fifth anniversary of the Peaceful Revolution which toppled the authoritarian GDR state. For these reasons, ReDICo has developed the ReDICo podcast, the first series of which, in three episodes, deals with the topic of “Freedom and the Internet”.

As a form of fiction that uniquely describes the encounter between various diversities in its cyber utopia, Star Trek is also ideal for an analytical examination from a digital intercultural perspective.

ReDICo member Milene Mendes de Oliveira and her collaborators Tiina Räisänen (University of Oulu) and Tuire Oittinen (University of Jyväskylä) investigated the emergence of a ‘team culture’ in an international group of university students engaging in a virtual collaborative project.

New publication: E-Book “Language and Interculturality in the Digital World”
Language, interculturality and digitality interact in many ways. As a further development of the panel “Digital Intercultural Communication” organized by the ReDICo team (as part of the section conference of the German Society for Applied Linguistics (GAL), 15 – 17.9.2021), we are now pleased to announce the completion of the volume “Language and Interculturality in the Digital World”. It is published in open access format and as an e-book in the series “Forum Angewandte Linguistik” (the Forum for Applied Linguistics).
PhD Colloquium and Workshop “Exploring the Dynamics of Interdisciplinarity in the Analysis of Digital Intercultural Data”
After a series of enlightening online talks, the ReDICo 2024 Encounters took an on-site turn with a PhD colloquium at the Friedrich Schiller University Jena in Germany, organized in collaboration with the German University Association of Intercultural Studies – Hochschulverband für interkulturelle Studien (IKS). Encounter 4 with Ben Rampton was a huge success!
New publication: E-Book “Lifewide Learning in Postdigital Societies: Shedding Light on Emerging Culturalities”
We are happy to announce the publication of the first ReDICo e-book “Lifewide Learning in Postdigital Societies: Shedding Light on Emerging Culturalities” edited by ReDICo members Luisa Conti and Fergal Lenehan.
The inaugural volume of the “Studies in Digital Interculturality” series is based on contributions to the first ReDICo E-Co-Conference and centres on the harnessing of the digital sphere’s potential to foster intercultural competence.
PhD Workshop and Colloquium in Jena
ReDICo and the University Association of Intercultural Studies (Hochschulverband für interkulturelle Studien e.V., IKS) are organizing the PhD Workshop Exploring the Dynamics of Interdisciplinarity in the Analysis of Digital Intercultural Data and a PhD Colloquium in the scope of ReDICo’s third annual scientific event “ReDICo 2024 Encounters”.
The event will take place at the Friedrich Schiller University Jena on March 4-5, 2024.
