ReDICo 2024 Encounters: Interdisciplinary Perspectives on Digital Interculturality
The ReDICo 2024 Encounters is the third edition of ReDICo’s annual conferences. It is being organized by Milene Mendes de Oliveira and Luisa Conti with a view to exploring the impact of digital practices on the notion of interculturality. Experts in sociolinguistics and intercultural communication will engage in dialogue with each other and with the audience in one on-site and six online Encounters.

New article explores synergies between English as a Lingua Franca Studies and Intercultural Studies
In a recently published journal article, the ReDICo member Milene Mendes de Oliveira, drawing upon Jürgen Bolten’s theory of interculturality, makes an argument regarding the interconnectedness of ELF Studies and Intercultural Studies, particularly focusing on the concept of ‘interculturality.’
ReDICo on the European Network Podcast
ReDICo member Fergal Lenehan appeared on the European Network’s “Ireland EU Podcast” where he talked about varieties of cosmopolitanism, especially the new digital context of cosmopolitanism, and how Ireland has been returning to its ‘natural state’ with a new and very large bilingual and bicultural minority.
Visit us at the GAL Conference 2023 in Mainz!
This year’s annual conference of the Society for Applied Linguistics (GAL), the leading professional society for the field in Germany, will attract approximately 400 people to the University of Mainz from 20 to 23 September. This year, the ReDICo project will also be present there!
Workshop by Ulrike Schröder and Flavia Fidelis at the University of Potsdam
During the winter term 2023/24, a series of activities dealing with the topic of “digital interculturality” will be held at the University of Potsdam. One of them is the workshop “Facial gestures in video-mediated intercultural communication: From transcription to analysis” by Prof. Ulrike Schröder and Dr. Flavia Fidelis from the University of Minas Gerais, Brazil.

Guest lecture by Melisa Stevanovic at the University of Potsdam
Prof. Melisa Stevanovic, from Tampere University (Finland), will visit ReDICo at the University of Potsdam and hold a guest lecture entitled Telling a supervisor about experiences of gendered dismissal: Problems of documentation, tellability, and failed authority.
